Eugene Phelps Named Week 1 Player of the Week

Flashing a gold-grilled grin, Eugene Phelps (@datattedbeast) returned to King/Drew High School Saturday to reclaim his role as one of the Drew League’s most dominant big men. A member of the undefeated championship BB4L in 2016, Phelps is now the go-to presence down low for the Cheaters, which fields numerous other members of that same team, including Van Girard and Casper Ware Jr.

On Saturday, though, it was all Phelps against the Blazers, who returned a number of their own championship players, including Billy White and Malcolm Thomas. However, despite being star forwards themselves, they had no answers for the Long Beach State product, who patrolled the paint with the ferocity of a caged tiger, bullying his way to the rim with little resistance. In addition to his 36 points, Phelps pulled down 10 rebounds, securing the first double-double of the season and showing why Cheaters will be a force to be reckoned with all summer long.
