TARI EASON NAMED WEEK 9 PLAYER OF THE WEEK July 29, 2024 West Coast Elite already has the presumptive favorite for MVP in Deshawndre Washington. But pairing him with Tari Eason turns their high-powered offense into a straight-up wood chipper, as seen on Saturday against The Jedi, with the 6â8â forward scoring 45 points and capturing 10 rebounds on the teamâs way to a 104-94 win that was only ever close in the third. One-on-one, Eason is borderline unstoppable, prompting a âgive him the ball and get out the wayâ offense that someone doesnât jam up WCEâs usual crisp ball movement (see: Washington and Marquis Moore combining for 8 assists on top of Easonâs 2). He drew attention anytime the ball was in his hands, freeing up his teammates for backdoor cuts, wide-open catch-and-shoot threes, and to focus on the defensive end, tightening the screws on The Jedi when they got too close. He can also keep up with the blistering pace of West Coast Eliteâs offense (intriguingly, this wasnât even the highest-scoring game of the weekend, with Rex 6 and Task Force combining for 212 total points, which has to be a record, on top of being our season high). West Coast Elite plays among the fastest of the Drew, but with Tari Eason in the lineup, itâs one of the most punishing too.
BRANDON MOSS NAMED WEEK 3 PLAYER OF THE WEEK June 19, 2024 âWait until Bag gets backâ was a common refrain from the Elevate core for the first 2 weeks of the 2024 season. Although the team came into week 3 with a .500 record, it was clear that when 6â10 forward Brandon Moss â affectionately referred to as âBody Bagâ thanks to his signature slam dunk celebration â they fully expected him to revitalize the team, bringing back the âTuff Fadesâ identity they still haven't lost despite their rebrand. In his week 3 debut, Body Bag didn't disappoint. 33 points and 6 rebounds later, it's clear that the multitude of opportunities Moss received after last year's Drew League championship have sharpened his nose for the ball, which he'll drag down from heights that seem unreal to the average human. The 2-man chemistry between Bag and Frank âNittyâ Session is core to what makes their team so dangerous. The lob threat means you can't leave the lanky leaper alone in the paint, and with Nittyâs eye for open shooters and lightning fast first step, Body Bagâs mere presence on the court gives opponents too many variables to calculate on defense⊠and then, he turns out to be just as mobile as the team's captain, creating a massive migraine for anyone looking to stop them from repeating.
