Week 2 Preview

Hopefully, after an eventful first week, the Drew League’s returning teams can shake off the rust and find a groove. A number of legacy teams found themselves already on the wrong of the standings after years spent hanging out near the top, including BB4L, the Blazers, MHP and Problems.

Unfortunately for them, it looks like they will all be facing some of the stiffest competition in the Drew. BB4L is running directly into one of few teams that can match them for defensive posture in the Panthers, who make up for their low scoring with a gritty, blue-collar brand of basketball that put them in the Playoffs last year.

The Blazers, after being smoked by CABC, will get to try their luck against the high-powered offense of the Nationwide Blue Devils, whose inside-outside game made mincemeat of the Pandas.

MHP, who started off as usual as a hot-shooting, ball-sharing buzzsaw on offense, ran out of gas against the youngsters of All In, so their ironically-titled opponent for Sunday, Young Citi, might be a welcome change of pace—if Young Citi weren’t so well-known for playing a punishing, physical form of basketball that complements tough-nosed guard Keith Smith’s ball-hawking playing style.

Finally, Problems may have had one of the biggest upsets after they came in absolutely loaded with a front line featuring menacing post presence Marcus Bell and Drew League point god Antonio Biglow.

However, it seemed they just couldn’t get their offense clicking against a Prodigy team that was apparently still flying high with confidence from their playoff victory last year. They’ll look to bounce back against the athletic CABC So Cal on Sunday.
